La Cotorra

This image here, as some may already know it a parrot. In Spanish we call this a cotorra. Cotorra is also a way some Spanish folks may categorize people that talk a little too much for their own good. I had my share of experiencing with a cottora on the bus, and all I could do was wonder when was this person going to shut up. Is there really that much to talk about at seven in the morning? I don’t think so! This person from moment she arrived on the bus, the first thing she did was call someone through her cell phone. She spoke with three different people throughout the ride. Finally shutting up when we arrived at the URI campus.
At first I didn't think about it too much. Her conversation only lasted about 10 minutes, and it seemed like the reason why it ended was because of the other person. She than mad a second phone call that was based on the same subject of her first conversation that she initiated. I was starting to get a feeling that she was calling people for no real reason but to have someone to talk to. My only problem was that it wasn't a, to yourself conversation. This person was loud! And like the energizer bunny she kept going and going and going about absolutely NOTHING!  Que cottora!

Old LoVe

Today as I was coming to school I witness probably the cutest thing anyone could ever witness. There was this elderly lady with possibly the whities hair you can ever imagine sitting beside and elderly man. Who, for the whole trip was holding her hand with his fingers folded around hers. I took small glances at them from time to time throughout the one hour ride. There was this moment when she whisper in his ear and seconds later the look at each other eye to eye. He places a kiss on her forehead and she smiles very slightly but in her face you can see her love. I don’t know who this people are and I possibly will never see them again. Today wants a bad day on ripta. There was no crowded and the ride was smooth. I also witness what it seemed to be old love. What a great was to being my day.

I Don't Want To Be The One Left Standing

Today hasn't been a very good start. I'm not too happy with my friend Ripta, since I waited a whole 20 minutes at the station waiting for the bus to arrive. (FYI, Ripta is the name of the bus station in Kennedy Plaza).  I was cold, and running late, plus the fact that there were about 30 other people waiting on the same bus too didn't make me too happy either. I knew this meant I was going to have to make sure I get in fast. Pretty much fight my way through. If not, I would be riding standing up, which I have not done yet and I am not planning on it either. I've seen people slip, I haven't witness someone falling yet, but slipping is not pretty either way. Even the thought that a person can fall, just hurts me.

Whenever the bus gets filed like today, if your one of the people that is seating in the front and middle section, somebody is most likely going to be standing around you. In certain situation they usually stand beside you, if you’re lucky. On other cases they're facing towards you, or giving you their back. I still haven't decided which one is more uncomfortable. There is nothing more uncomfortable than having to seat on a bus for an hour, more or less, with someone’s behind so close to your face, someone you've never even met or seen before in your life.  You almost don't know what to say.

What I do, is I push really back into my seat so that I create some space in between us two, close my eyes and make pretend there is no one there. Until I accidentally kick them, but they know it was by mistake, so all is well. :)  I hate riding on the bus when it's full. At least I got a seat and wasn't one of the ones left standing.

nap time

This isn't the first time I see this happen. In fact, I'm a victim of falling asleep while riding on the bus too. For those of you out there that are not new and are accustomed to riding the bus, or using public transportation; I'm almost positive that if you haven't witness this act, that you were the one doing the act of falling sleep on the bus.
Even though the seats on the bus maybe as uncomfortable as they are. Do not be surprised when you are riding on the bus for longer than 25 minutes and you suddenly start to feel your eyes getting heavier, and heavier. It start off by you loosing up more, adjust the way your positioned just a liiiiiiiiittle more.  You then notice all of a sudden. The seat isn't that bad anymore. Your eyes have now closed for longer than a second and your head seems to nod slightly to the side unwillingly. Now you have successfully fallen asleep. It's not the best sleep in the world, but when its 7 o'clock in the morning, booyyyy does that nap feel good.

You never really wake up peacefully, well at least I haven’t. I always wake up scared and my heart feels like it’s going 100 miles an hour. Usually because the bus drive always has to stomp on the breaks like there is a old lady about to walk across the street. Like where do this people get their license from, I know they see people are trying to sleep here (just kidding).  It is almost inevitable for someone to not take a nap on the bus. And it's probably one of the funniest things to see people fall asleep in the most unusual positions. On the picture above, I took this picture 3 days ago. Now she doesn't look comfortable at all. But I can tell you this much, she was sleeping for the hole ride. Kennedy Plaza to URI, (that’s a whole hour and ten minutes for those who don't know). I'm pretty new to public transportation, but she most had become immune to the feeling on the bus because I can only last 5 minutes if that when I drift off. Pretty soon this might be me. And even you too.
